MEET CAREY

Originally from New York, Carey grew up with frequent exposure to the music and theater scene. She performed with bands, a cappella groups, and in theater productions throughout her high school years and eventually went on to study professional music, vocal performance, and music business at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. After graduating with honors in 1999, Carey got hired to go on a national tour as a backup singer for Michael Amante. At that point, she decided to move to NYC to fully commit to the life of a professional vocalist. She performed in many varied genres at prestigious venues including fronting an 18 piece big band at the Rainbow Room and in a musical theater production at Carnegie Hall. She also began an independent project writing, producing, and performing on a CD of her own original music called ‘Blurt’ which she debuted at the famous East Village club, The Bitter End, with a full band. She booked work singing lead and backup vocals, and doing voiceover work in recording studios for dozens of other musicians and writers and as the house vocalist/voice over artist for Stephen Hero Productions. In addition to performing and recording, Carey taught over 200 private voice students during her 10 years living in NYC in styles ranging from pop to jazz to musical theater and blues. In 2012, Carey and her (now) husband relocated to Florida. She has added ‘singing lullabies’ to her 2 children to the top of her resume, and after a few years away from performing and recording, threw herself back in full force with an original, one-woman, full-length cabaret in the Venice Theater Cabaret series of 2018. The following year, Carey landed a dream-come-true, on-air, live television job at HSN, and was quickly reminded how much fun being her natural self in a studio could be. She is always excited to see what performance or recording opportunity may be the next one around the corner. She still teaches voice lessons, now having taught over 1000 students, and loves to share her passion for music with others. Although she has recently relocated to the Decatur/Atlanta area, she credits Zoom/Facetime for the ability to teach students all over the world now. She is grateful every day for the chance to bring music into so many lives, even when we can’t be together in person.
